Central Hinds Academy

Melissa began her years at CHA as a student. She attended K4 as well as 11th and 12th grades. While here she was voted onto the homecoming court and and was involved in 4H. After she graduated from CHA, she earned her Associates Degree from Hinds, Bachelors in Elementary Education from MC and her Admin Leadership Certification from the MAIS. While in high school and attending Hinds, she worked in the aftercare program with Mister. She says "He was one of the first ones to encourage me to be an educator. He was always so much fun and loved what he does each day and I knew that whatever I chose I wanted to love doing it each day." Melissa has been on staff at CHA for 14 years beginning as a teacher and currently serving as our Elementary Principal as well as filling in as needed until our new Head of School comes fully on board. Her favorite part of her job is building relationships with students and helping make the teachers' jobs easier. She was awarded Teacher of the Year while at Central Hinds. When asked what makes CHA special Melissa says "CHA has some amazing teachers and families that make us such a special place. We are truly blessed with a staff that loves our students and wants to see them succeed." When asked what she has learned during her time at CHA, she says "Through working at CHA, I have learned to rely more on God and His plans for my future. He has opened doors for me to step into a leadership role on campus and through this role I can help lead our students closer to Him and help guide them in building their relationships with Him." Melissa and her husband Hayes currently live in Raymond and Adyson is a cougar fourth grader. We are so blessed to have Mrs. Nix as part of our staff at Central Hinds Academy.
