Ovid Vickers Accepted to Chiropractic School

Ovid Vickers is a 2022 graduate of Central Hinds Academy with strong ties to our school as he is the son of our current STEM teacher Mary Vickers. Ovid also mentions Coach Barrett as a Cougar Faculty member who impacted him because he taught him that "preparation is the key to success"Ovid is currently completing his senior year at Ole Miss. When he graduates he will have his degree in Exercise Science. After graduation he will continue his education at Life University in Marietta, Georgia where he has already been accepted into the Doctor of Chiropractic program. This will give him the education he need to complete his career goals of becoming a practicing chiropractor. Join Central Hinds in wishing Ovid much success in this new chapter of his life. We know that Ovid will continue to make the Cougar community proud.

Brian King Class of 2015

Brian King, class of 2015, has recently taken a new position as the strength and conditioning coach for men's and women's basketball at the University of Southern Mississippi. Brian was a multi-sport athletic standout at CHA winning awards in football, state track championships (100/200 meters) and was part of our state championship boy's soccer team. He was also voted Student Body President and into the Hall of Fame his senior year. During his college years Brian played D1 football for Southern. Brian says he is excited for this new opportunity to coach at his alma mater and "dream school". "So many staff members from CHA have led me to where I am today. Administrators, coaches, and teachers... have all helped and guided me through life. I am very grateful to CHA and the time I spent there. I wish nothing but the best for CHA, it is a great place with great people!" Join Central Hinds in wishing Brian and the USM Eagles good luck and much success in the upcoming season. We know that Brian will continue to make the Cougar community proud as he moves into this new chapter in his career.

Hanna Allen Class of 2020

Hanna Allen is a 2024 graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi. She has excelled in both the classroom and on campus. She was recently awarded Who's Who which is considered the highest leadership honor for Southern Miss students as these seniors have exhibited campus leadership, academic achievement and service to their college. She also received the Best Citizen Award which is given to the two seniors who exemplify servant leadership and outstanding dedication to their various roles throughout their time at Southern. Lastly, but not least, she also was awarded the William H. Hatcher Award in Political Theory which is given to the top student in Political Theory Classes at the college. We at Central hinds are so proud of Hanna and can't wait to see what she accomplishes as she continues her journey!

Chandler McCaffrey Class of 2021

Join us in congratulating Cougar alum Chandler McCaffrey who was recently recognized by the University of Mississippi with the prestigious Taylor Medal. Chandler, class of 2021, is a graduate of Ole Miss who received his BS in Applied Gerontology with a minor in Recreation Therapy just last week. He is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. The Taylor Medal is awarded to no more than 1% of the student body at Ole Miss and Chandler is the second cougar alum to receive the award this year.  Students are nominated for outstanding scholarship (GPA of 3.90 or higher) in their particular field combined with superior work in all of their other subjects.  Chandler has also been accepted into the accelerated Nursing BSN program in Oxford and will begin in August. We are so proud of our cougar alumni and can’t wait to see more of their future success!

Sarah Kerr and Anna Kate Shaw

Join us in congratulating two Cougar alumni who were recently recognized by the University of Mississippi.  Sarah Kerr, class of 2021, is a junior at Ole Miss majoring in biochemistry and following the pre-dental track.  Anna Kate Shaw, class of 2020, is a senior majoring in Dietetics and Nutrition with a minor in Chemistry.  Both girls were recently awarded the Who’s Who award which is based on campus involvement, leadership, academic achievement, and service activities.  Only 201 students from the university were awarded with this recognition.  Anna Kate also has received the prestigious Taylor Medal.  It is awarded to no more than 1% of the student body at Ole Miss.  Students are nominated for outstanding scholarship (GPA of 3.90 or higher) in their particular field combined with superior work in all of their other subjects.  We are so proud of our cougar alumni and can’t wait to see more of their future success!
