Cheryl Gray has been a part of the Central Hinds Academy staff for six and a half years coming on staff in January of 2018 to help out in the office. Currently she serves as our school counselor working closely with staff and students on a daily basis. Some of her responsibilities include scheduling, coordinating dual credit classes, counseling, career and college exploration, and managing transcripts. She also serves as senior class sponsor.
Cheryl lives in Utica with her husband of 29 years, Michael. Both of her sons are also cougar alumni. Eli graduated in 2019 and is currently a nurse at UMMC in Jackson. Tucker was part of our most recent graduating class in 2024 and is a freshman at Hinds Community College here in Raymond. Cheryl attended high school at REBUL Academy. She then continued her education at HCC receiving her Associate's Degree before continuing to Mississippi College where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and her Masters in Guidance and Counseling. When asked about her career path Cheryl says "I always wanted to be a teacher and I did that for several years before I went back to get my master's. I love helping students get through tough situations and finding what they are good at." When asked about how she came to be a part of the staff at CHA she says "I retired from Hinds County Public Schools with 25 years and was asked if I would like to come work at CHA to help out in the office. I was excited to come and get to be a part of both of my kids time at CHA. Especially getting to be here for both of their senior years" which she mentions as one of her favorite parts of being at CHA. Of working with the seniors she says "I love working with the seniors and watching them enjoy their senior year and helping them with college and career choices." Cheryl says that CHA is different from other places because of the family atmosphere and all of the staff that she enjoys working with on a daily basis.
When she isn't at school, Cheryl can most likely be found spending time with some of her furry friends. She has four cats: Roxie, Oscar, Walter, and BB and two dogs: Jesse and Pete. She has a huge heart for saving all kinds of animals and finding them their furever homes. She also teaches three-five year olds at her home church Hinds Independent Methodist. We are so blessed to have Mrs. Cheryl as part of our staff at Central Hinds Academy. Please be in prayer for her as she works diligently to make our school better each and every day.
